Everybody speaks about funding in Africa, and rightfully so: the continent received over $4b in investment in the last year. But what happens with the money once sent?

Funding is only ever worth as much as the way it is deployed, and this brings me to the important point of operational excellence. I speak out of experience when I say I have seen huge amounts of money gone because of the aforementioned. There are a lot of ideas of what operational excellence is, for me it is always based on the following:

• Clean governance

• Disciplined execution

• Sustainable (human) resource management

These 3 pillars lead to value creation. What is your take on operational excellence and the way it is implemented on the continent (and elsewhere)?
